  • 共和联邦成立于1931年,原本是为日益自主的英属国家所发起的邦联性质组织,但随着第二次世界大战结束后掀起的反殖民运动,英国前殖民地也纷纷宣告独立,这个组织改为接纳独立后的共和国国家。
  • 新加坡于1965年加入共和联邦。目前共和联邦由53个独立国组成,成员国主要是英国前殖民地,其中包括31个小国。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Founded in 1931, the Commonwealth of Nations was formerly established for increasingly self-governing territories of the British Empire. After the Second World War, with the decolonisation and independence of the British Empire’s former colonies, the association changed its rules to accept independent republic countries as members.
  • Singapore became part of the Commonwealth of Nations in 1965. There are currently 53 sovereign states in the Commonwealth of Nations, mostly former colonies of the British Empire, including 31 small nations.
