  • 英语“expressway”的意译。
  • 1960年代，新加坡经济腾飞，为了应付经济发展过程中的运输需求，政府在联合国开发计划署（United Nations Development Programme）的帮助下，从1968年至1971年间致力于新加坡国家暨城市规划（State and City Planning Project）。1971 年，新加坡政府制定了“1971概念图”（1971 Concept Plan）的长期发展计划，首次针对性探讨综合土地规划，以及交通需求下的土地使用等课题。
  • 该计划旨在四年之内，于新加坡建造连接全岛的长距离快速公路，并建设捷运系统。
  • 在这项计划的基础设施蓝图中，包括一个围绕中央集水区（Central catchment area）的快速公路网络，连接所有开发区，如城市区（Downtown area）、裕廊(Jurong)、樟宜(Changi)，以及各个新市镇(new towns)。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “快速公路” is a paraphrase of the English term “expressway”.
  • In the 1960s, as Singapore’s economy grew rapidly, the government embarked on the State and City Planning Project from 1968 to 1971 to address the increase in demand for transportation in tandem with economic development, with the help of the United Nations Development Programme. In 1971, the Singapore government formulated the 1971 Concept Plan to facilitate long-term development and explored the issues of comprehensive land use planning and land use for transportation for the first time.
  • The plan aimed to build long-distance expressways connecting the entire island, and a rapid transit system in Singapore within four years.
  • The plan’s infrastructure blueprint included a network of expressways surrounding the Central catchment area which connected all areas marked for development, including the Downtown area, Jurong, Changi, and various new towns.
  • In 1981, the East Coast Parkway connecting Changi Airport and the downtown area was officially opened. This was the first expressway in the first major transport infrastructure project in the Concept Plan.
