• In 1987, the Singapore Federation of Chinese Clan Associations, Lianhe Zaobao, Lianhe Wanbao and the Telok Ayer Citizens' Consultative Committee jointly organised the first ever River Hong Bao, which included stage performances, bazaars and floats.
• River Hong Bao aims to preserve Chinese traditions, and pass them on to the next generation.
• The River Hong Bao takes places almost every year along the Singapore River. It has been held on the Marina Bay Floating Platform since 2009.
• In 2019, River Hong Bao showcased an extravagant fireworks display in conjunction with Singapore’s bicentennial. The celebrations for that year also included a gourmet street, a lantern exhibition, a carnival and stage performances.

In conjunction with the Singapore Bicentennial, the “Fireworks Spectacular!” held at the Marina Bay Floating Platform tonight will be the largest fireworks display in the 33-year-long history of the River Hong Bao. (Lianhe Zaobao, 5/2/2019)
