名词

位于新加坡东部的东海岸（East Coast）一带，属于马林百列（Marine Parade）区。全称为丹戎加东（Tanjong Katong）。

由来
  • 马来语 Tanjong Katong 的音译。马来语的 tanjong（或 tanjung）是 “海角” 的意思，而 katong（或 katung）则指一种已经绝种的海龟。另有说法认为，katong 是指海岸线的海市蜃楼所形成的涟漪效果。
  • 加东早期属于沿海地区，当地曾有很多椰子种植园。
  • 20 世纪初，土生华人（Peranakan Chinese）和欧亚裔（Eurasian）在加东建了许多用于度假的海滨别墅，所以加东一带的部分建筑仍保留了当时的建筑特色。
  • 1966 年，政府开始实行填海计划，加东一带的别墅也因此不再邻近海边。
