释义

名词

一种载货的汽车。也译为罗里。

DEFINITION

Noun

A type of vehicle for transporting goods. Also known in Mandarin as “罗里”.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “罗厘” is the transliteration of the English word “lorry”.

  • The term “lorry” originated from British English. This type of cargo vehicle was first launched in the United Kingdom around the early 20th century before it was introduced to Singapore and Malaysia.

  • Types of lorries that are commonly seen in Singapore include pickups, lorries with shelters, container lorries and crane lorries. A unique characteristic of some lorries is that there is no cover for the part of the vehicle carrying goods.

  • Lorries can be categorised into three groups, according to their length:

  1. 10 feet: typically used to transport goods.

  2. 14 feet: used to transport large items such as long metal products or pipes.

  3. 24 feet: suitable for transporting bigger-sized cargo. Some may be equipped with a cover while others may have a crane installed for easy loading and unloading.

例句
罗厘与电单车骑士公路纠纷,原来电单车是骑士向朋友借来的,他向朋友声称,事发时先超车的是罗厘,还在他面前不断刹车,他才生气地反超罗厘要讨说法。(《联合晚报》,4/1/2019)
