  • 由于维多利亚街与桥北路(North Bridge Road,俗称小坡大马路)平行,而且比桥北路稍微迟开辟,因此人们便俗称维多利亚街为 “小坡二马路” 或简称 “二马路”。
  • 二马路在正式命名为维多利亚街之前,曾被俗称为梧槽街(Rochor Street)和马波街(Marbro Street)。

ETYMOLOGY
  • 新桥” (New Bridge) in the term “新桥路” (New Bridge Road) refers to Coleman Bridge that was built in 1842. The road is parallel to South Bridge Road, colloquially known as 大坡大马路 (main road in the South Bridge Road area), and is sequentially called 大坡马路” (second major road in the South Bridge Road area).
  • As Victoria Street is parallel to North Bridge Road (colloquially known as “小坡大马路” , main road in the North Bridge road area) and was constructed slightly later, it became colloquially known as 小坡二马路 (second major road in the North Bridge Road area), which was abbreviated as 二马路”.
  • Before it was officially renamed to Victoria Street, “二马路was colloquially known as Rochor Street and Marbro Street.
  • Victoria Street was also colloquially known in Mandarin as 后马车街.
