Storytelling – Grandpa’s Little Room

Date: 11 November 2017, Saturday

Time: 3pm – 4pm

Venue: Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall, Gallery 4 (Level 2)

About the story

A uniquely Singaporean picture book depicting a family living in Chinatown in the 1940s. The author had heard his mum talk about the little room her family lived in when she as young, and so, the story began with him at a tender age listening to this narration together with his teddy bear. The readers will see how his grandpa’s family of six lived in the little room, and how they shared common facilities with their neighbours such as majie and Samsui women. Though poor in material possessions, they were rich in fortitude and tolerance.
