Noun

A document which records a person’s time and place of birth as well as their parents’ names. Also known in Mandain as "出生字" or "出生纸".

  • 源自福建话(闽南语)po se tsua,也称出生字、出生纸。
  • 在新加坡,所有新生儿必须在指定的出生注册中心(Birth Registration Centre)注册。注册必须由新生儿的父母(或其中一位)或委托人(必须持有新生儿父母提供授权书),当局才会发出证件。
  • 新生儿的注册必须在新生儿出世的14天内进行,并且不能迟于42天,否则父母(或其中一位)必须提供迟注册的原因和书面证明。
  • 对于在国外出生的新生儿,新加坡出生注册局则不会发出证件。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The term originated from the Hokkien (Minnan) dialect term po se tsua, which means birth certificate.
  • In Singapore, all newborns must be registered at gazetted birth registration centres. The registration can be done by either one or both of the child’s parents or by a proxy on behalf of the parents (they must possess a letter of authorisation from the parents). After registration, a birth certificate will be issued.
  • The registration of a birth should be done within 14 calendar days from the date of birth and no later than 42 days. One or both of the parents will have to submit a written letter and submit proof for the reason(s) for late registration if they fail to register within the stipulated time.
  • Singapore does not issue birth certificates for births that occur overseas.
