由来
  • 万国一带曾经是新加坡树胶公司 “Singapore United Rubber Plantations Limited” 的土地。其英文名称 “Buangkok” 是根据该公司的中文名 “万国” 的潮州方言发音音译而成。
  • 新加坡最后的甘榜村落 —— 甘榜罗弄万国（Kampong Lorong Buangkok）就在万国里头。1956 年，卖中药的孙姓商贩 Sng Teow Koon 买下了这块土地，目前由其女儿孙梅虹继承土地。甘榜中约有 26 户马来族和华族的住户。虽然甘榜所在的土地已经在进行重建，但是考虑到罗弄万国是值得保留的遗迹，因此针对该地的发展计划还未实施。
  • 随着万国地铁站于 2006 年开通，更多居民选择购买万国一带的组屋。万国地铁站周围的服务设施也可以满足居民们日常生活的需求。
  • 2019 年市区重建局（Urban Redevelopment Authority）的计划中包括了万国综合发展项目。此项目包括万国地铁站、巴士转换站、民众联络所、熟食中心以及零售商店，并将于 2025 年开幕。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The vicinity of Buangkok used to be owned by the Singapore United Rubber Plantations Limited, a rubber company in Singapore. The English name “Buangkok” is a transliteration of the Teochew pronunciation of “万国”, the company’s name in Mandarin.
  • Kampong Lorong Buangkok, the last village in Singapore, sits within Buangkok. In 1956, Sng Teow Koon, a traditional Chinese medicine seller, bought this piece of land. It was then inherited by his daughter Sng Mui Hong. There are about 26 Malay and Chinese households in the kampong. Although the land on which the kampong is located is already marked for redevelopment, the development plans for this piece of land has yet to be implemented due to considerations that Lorong Buangkok is a heritage site worth preserving.
  • With the opening of Buangkok Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) Station in 2006, more residents have chosen to purchase Housing and Development Board  flats in the Buangkok area. The facilities around Buangkok MRT Station have been able to meet residents’ daily needs.
  • In 2019, the Buangkok Integrated Development was included in the Urban Redevelopment Authority’s Draft Master Plan. This project will be completed by 2025 and includes the Buangkok MRT Station, a bus interchange, a community club, a hawker centre, and retail stores.
