ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “堂费” is a paraphrase of the English term “court fees”.
  • Court fees include various expenses incurred during the litigation process, such as hearing fees, fees for translations or interpretation services at the hearing, and appeal fees to the High Court. However, it does not include attorney fees.
  • The various fees are mainly assessed based on the standards specified in the Rule of Courts.
  • Court fees are normally borne by the prosecuting party, but the judge can decide who will pay the court fees and the specific amount to be paid.
