  • 1954 年,健力士酒厂(Guinness Brewery)的董事长,比佛爵士(Sir Hugh Beaver)在回忆起几年前猎鸟活动上发生的一场争执之后,便开始对健力士世界纪录进行构思。
  • 健力士世界纪录正式于 1955 年创办,并且每年都出版《健力士世界界纪录大全》(The Guinness Book of World Records)一书。
  • 有意申请列入健力士世界纪录者必须符合这六项条件:可被测定、可被证实、可被刷新、可以标准化、必须基于一个变量,以及是世界上最好的、其他人无法做得更好的记录。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “健力士世界纪录大全” is a combination of the transliteration and a paraphrase of the English term “Guinness Book of World Records”.
  • In 1954, the chairman of Guinness Brewery, Sir Hugh Beaver, began entertaining the idea of having a “Guinness World Records” when he recalled a dispute that broke out at a bird hunting event some years back.
  • The Guinness World Records was officially created in 1955, and an edition of the “Guinness Book of World Records” is published every year.
  • Those who wish to apply to be listed in the Guinness World Records must meet the following six conditions: It is a feat that can be measured, verified, surpassed and standardised; it must be based on one variable; and it must be the best record in the world that no one has bettered.
  • The Guinness Book of World Records has been published in more than 20 languages around the world.
  • Since the founding of Singapore, the nation has set more than 170 Guinness World Records. The Westin Stamford Hotel (now known as Swissotel The Stamford), which was designed by famed architect Ieoh Ming Pei and  opened in 1986, has set a record as the world’s tallest hotel with 73 floors towering to 226.1 meters. This is also Singapore’s first Guinness World Record.
  • On 28 June 2014, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra hosted one of the largest performances ever in Singapore, “Our People, Our Music 2014”, which set two world records: the world’s largest Chinese orchestra performance and the world’s largest Chinese drum group.
