  • 在新加坡，嗜毒者离开戒毒所或囚犯离开监狱后，一般需要到中途之家接受辅导或加入留宿康复计划（residential rehabilitation programme），以彻底戒掉毒瘾或犯罪习惯，并接受能帮助他们重新融入社会的技能培训，以让他们能重返社会，避免再犯罪。
  • 由于曾被监禁的人要重新融入社会，将遇到很大的障碍，因此中途之家主要协助释囚重建生命。
  • 中途之家一般由宗教团体主办，政府不直接拨款，但会给予运作及人力方面的协助。2018年，政府成立了第一间官办的中途之家，名为史拉兰中途之家 (Selarang Halfway House) 。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “中途之家” is a paraphrase of the English term “halfway house”.
  • In Singapore, former drug addicts and prisoners who have left the drug rehabilitation centre or prison are usually required to go to a halfway house for counselling, or to join a residential rehabilitation programme to completely get rid of their drug addiction or criminal habits. They also undergo training that will help them reintegrate into society, return to the community, and ensure that they do not commit offences again.
  • As ex-offenders encounter great difficulty in their attempts to reintegrate into society after their prison term, halfway houses mainly assist them in rebuilding their lives.
  • Halfway houses are generally established by religious organisations. The government does not provide direct funding for halfway houses, but will aid with their operations and manpower. The first government-run halfway house, Selarang Halfway House was established in 2018.
