  • The light-up ceremony for certain festive days are formal events and the person who officiates it is usually a distinguished figure such as the President, the Prime Minister, a minister, or a Member of Parliament.
  • Regular festive light-up ceremonies and their locations include:
  1. Chinese New Year at Chinatown and the Singapore River.
  2. Hari Raya Puasa at Geylang Road and Sims Avenue.
  3. Mid-Autumn Festival at Chinatown.
  4. Deepavali at Little India.
  5. Street lighting decorations along Orchard Road are lit up for Christmas.
  • Besides festivities, some organisations and institutions hold light-up ceremonies to mark and convey the significance of certain events. For example, during the COVID-19 pandemic, certain hotels in Singapore held light-up ceremonies to express their gratitude and provide encouragement to essential staff in the service sector. On 23 March 2021, many buildings across Singapore lit up in blue to commemorate World Water Day.
