  • 1995年，电缆电视正式在新加坡推出。
  • 淡滨尼 (Tampines) 是新加坡第一个启用电缆电视的新镇，居民可收看30个频道与九个国际电视台的节目。

ETYMOLOGY
  • Cable television was officially rolled out in Singapore in 1995.
  • Tampines was the first new town to receive cable television. Residents were able to watch content from 30 channels and nine international television stations.
  • By 1998, the project of laying cables across Singapore was completed, and cable television became available islandwide, allowing viewers to watch content from paid channels.
  • The types of programmes provided by cable television include news, music, sports, education, movies, and entertainment.
  • Before cable television was launched, viewers relied on super high frequency broadcasting through specialised receivers to watch content from the three paid channels of Singapore Cable Vision.
  • Compared with super high frequency broadcasting, cable television charges a lower fee and also offers better image quality.
  • Singapore Cable Vision and telecommunications company Starhub merged in 2001 to provide affordable cable television programming.
