释义

名词

一座历史悠久、位于新加坡市中心的小山丘。也称“福康宁山”、“升旗山”。

DEFINITION

Noun

A historic hill located in the heart of Singapore. Also known in Mandarin as “福康宁山” or “升旗山”.

ETYMOLOGY
  • Fort Canning Hill boasts a long history. Gold ornaments, Chinese porcelain artefacts and architecture discovered by modern archaeologists on the hill can be traced back to the 14th century. As Singapore was a trade transit point along the Maritime Silk Road during the Middle Ages, ceramic artefacts from the Yuan dynasty have also been found on the hill.
  • An ancient royal palace once stood on Fort Canning Hill. The general public could not enter the area without permission, so it was also known as “皇家山” (Literally translated as “Royal Hill”) and “Forbidden Hill” (translated from the Malay name "Bukit Larangan").
  •  “福康宁山” (fú kāng níng shān) is the transliteration of its English name “Fort Canning Hill”.
  • Singapore’s first botanical garden was established on Fort Canning Hill, occupying an area of 19 hectares.
  • Pancur Larangan (Forbidden Spring) on Fort Canning Hill is said to be where the women of the ruler’s household bathed in ancient times. In conjunction with Singapore’s bicentennial in 2019, an interpretative reconstruction of Pancur Larangan was built as part of the Fort Canning Park restoration project.
例句
皇家山其实还有个更古老的名字“禁山”,那是指700年前古代新加坡拉时代酋长的皇宫禁地。(《联合晚报》, 30/1/2019)
SAMPLE SENTENCE
Fort Canning Hill actually has an even older name, “Forbidden Hill”, which refers to the royal palace grounds of ancient Singapura 700 years ago. (Lianhe Wanbao, 30/1/2019)
