  • 有说法认为 “塑胶” 一词来自中国南方方言，如福建话的 sok’ka 或广东话的 sog’gauu。
  • 塑胶有橡胶的成分，而新加坡曾一度盛产橡胶。1935 年，新加坡的陆地面积高达40%都是橡胶园。种植橡胶的地点包括实里达（Seletar）、义顺（Yishun）、武吉知马（Bukit Timah）、乌敏岛（Pulau Ubin）和德光岛（Pulau Tekong）。

ETYMOLOGY
  • It is believed that the Mandarin term “塑胶” originated from the dialects of southern China, such as sok'ka in Hokkien or sog'gauu in Cantonese.
  • Plastic contains rubber, which was once richly cultivated in Singapore. In 1935, rubber plantations covered up to 40% of Singapore’s land area. The sites where rubber was grown included Seletar, Yishun, Bukit Timah, Pulau Ubin, and Pulau Tekong.
  • Today, many rubber trees can still be found in the secondary forests of Pulau Ubin and Pulau Tekong.
  • A survey revealed that Singaporeans take 820 million plastic bags from supermarkets every year, but only 2% of the plastic bags were recycled.
  • In 2017, Singapore produced a staggering 763,400 tonnes of plastic waste.
