- The Mandarin term “自助邮务机” is a paraphrase of the English term “Self-service Automated Machine”.
- The Self-service Automated Machine (SAM) was officially rolled out in 1997.
- The first SAM was installed outside the post office located at Killiney Road, providing 24-hour services for the public.
- Customers can purchase stamps through electronic payment. SAMs can also weigh letters or parcels under 2kg and calculate postage costs for customers.
- Besides postal services, the public can also pay telephone bills, utility bills and medical bills using SAMs.
- By the start of 2021, Singapore has 295 SAMs installed across the island.
