Noun

A general term for a disease of the human immune system that is sexually transmitted. Also known as acquired immunodeficiency syndrome. 

由来
  • 爱之病，由“爱之”和“病”两部分构成，而“爱之”是音译自英语的 “AIDS” (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome 的缩写)。
  • 爱之病由人类免疫缺乏病毒 (Human immunodeficiency virus，简称 HIV) 通过性接触、输血或母婴传播等途径感染人体所致。病人会出现免疫功能低下、超过正常体温的轻微发烧、慢性腹泻和恶性肿瘤等症状，致死率高。
  • 1981年，爱之病首先在美国被发现。
  • 自1985年发现首起病例，新加坡政府发起了爱之病行动小组 (Action For AIDS)，依靠民众的合作和医疗保健系统，至 2018 年已将新增病例降至 313 人。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin name “爱之病” is a combination of the Mandarin terms “爱之” and “病”, with the former being the transliteration of the English term “AIDS” (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome).
  • AIDS is caused by the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), which is transmitted sexually, by blood transfusion or from mother-to-child. Patients will present symptoms such as a weakened immune function, a mild fever above body temperature, chronic diarrhoea and malignant tumours. AIDS has a high mortality rate.
  • AIDS was first discovered in the United States of America in 1981.
  • Since the discovery of the first case of AIDS in 1985, the Singapore government has launched Action For AIDS; in 2018, the number of newly diagnosed AIDS cases had been reduced to 313 with the cooperation of members of the public and the support of the healthcare system.
