在短时间内接连庆祝两个重大的节日。

DEFINITION

Noun , Adjective

The celebration of two major festivals in succession within a short period of time.

ETYMOLOGY
  • In the diverse society of Singapore, different ethnic and religious groups each have their respective major festivals. However, as different groups may follow different calendars, major festivals may coincide and are celebrated one after another in a specific year. This is referred to as “双佳节.
  • For instance, in 1997 and 1998, Muslims celebrated Hari Raya Puasa on the third day of the first lunar month, which was very close to the Lunar New Year (the first day of the first lunar month) celebrated by the ethnic Chinese.
  • The usage context of the Mandarin term 双佳节is not limited to the major festivals of the various ethnic and religious groups. For example, in 2013, Hari Raya Puasa fell on 8 August, a day before Singapores National Day (9 August). Although National Day is a national celebration that transcends ethnicities, Singapore’s local Chinese media also referred to that year’s Hari Raya Puasa and National Day as 双佳节.
例句
