  • 英语 “black coffee” 的音译兼意译。
  • 咖啡是 “coffee” 的音译，而 “乌” 在福建话和潮州话中指黑色，即 “black” 的意译。
  • 在新加坡人的日常口语中，一般将咖啡乌称之为 “Kopi-O”。 Kopi 是咖啡的马来语读音，而 O 则是标注了福建话和潮州话中 “乌” 的读音。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “咖啡乌” is both the transliteration and paraphrase of the English term “black coffee”.
  • “咖啡” is the transliteration of “coffee”, while “乌” means black in the Hokkien and Teochew dialects.
  • In the everyday speech of Singaporeans, “咖啡乌” is usually called “kopi-o”. Kopi is the way “coffee” is pronounced in Malay, and “o” is the way “乌” is pronounced in the Hokkien and Teochew dialects.
