  • “搭客”一词，据说源自福建话 tah kheh 与广东话 dap hak。

  • 在新加坡，使用“搭客”的频率比“乘客”高。
ETYMOLOGY

  • The term “搭客” is said to have originated from tah kheh in the Hokkien dialect and dap hak in Cantonese.

  • In Mainland China, the term is rarely used to refer to passengers. Rather, it usually refers to the action of vehicles or boats allowing people to hitch a ride.

  • In Singapore, the term “乘客” is also used to refer to passengers, but “搭客” is more commonly encountered.
