DEFINITION

Noun

A programme to study and promote water saving during showers by installing smart shower sets. Also known in Mandarin as “智能淋浴计划” .

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “智能花洒计划” is a paraphrase of the English term “Smart Shower Programme”.
  • According to statistics from the Public Utilities Board (PUB), between 2018 and 2019, water consumption for showering made up almost 30% of the total water consumption in a household.
  • In 2018, the Singapore PUB rolled out the Smart Shower Programme, which planned to install smart showers in 10,000 Build-To-Order (BTO) flats within two years.
  • Unlike ordinary shower sets, smart shower sets can change colour or indicate numbers digitally according to the water consumption level. Red and green are used to indicate high and low levels of water consumption respectively.
  • This programme is expected to save each household about 3% of their water bill every month, and help each individual reduce water consumption by five litres every day.
  • The PUB will conduct research using data obtained from this project to extend similar water saving concepts to other aspects of water use.
  • Users can check whether their household water consumption has met preset water conservation goals through a mobile app.
