由来

1962 年，新加坡语言与文化理事会 (Dewan Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Singapura) 首次举办国家语言月(Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan)。该理事会于1960年成立，旨在促进新加坡的国家语
言——马来语的学习和推广。
1982 年，新加坡非营利组织马来文化团体中央理事会 (Majlis Pusat) 接手举办新加坡独立之后的马来语文与文化活动月。
1988 年，新加坡马来语文委员会（今新加坡马来语文理事会 [Malay Language Council, Singapore]）正式组织了马来语文与文化活动月委员会（Bulan Bahasa Committee），并发起了首届两年一次的马来语文与文化活动月。
2010 年，马来语文与文化活动月改为一年一度的活动。
2014 年，马来语文与文化活动月增添了 “语言之友”（Rakan Bahasa）的项目，目的是培养与鼓励马来语言较优秀的学生跟亲朋戚友分享他们对马来语言的热忱和喜爱。

ETYMOLOGY

In 1962, the first month-long Malay-language event, Bulan Bahasa Kebangsaan (National Language Month), was organised by the Dewan Bahasa dan Kebudayaan Singapura (Singapore Language and Culture Council). The Council had been formed in 1960 to foster the learning and promotion of the Malay language as Singapore’s National Language.
In 1982, the non-profit organisation Majlis Pusat took over the organisation of the event in Singapore post-independence.
The Bulan Bahasa Committee was officially established in 1988 by the Malay Language Committee, Singapore (now known as the Malay Language Council, Singapore) to organise Bulan Bahasa biannually.
In 2010, Bulan Bahasa became an annual event.
In 2014, the Rakan Bahasa (Friends of the Language) project was added to Bulan Bahasa with the aim of encouraging students with a strong command of the Malay language to share their passion and love for the language with their family and friends.
