ETYMOLOGY
  • The character “” in “干巴刹” means “dry” and also clean and hygienic. The Mandarin term 巴刹” is the transliteration of the Malay term pasar, which means market.
  • Dry markets are generally found in air-conditioned malls, supermarkets, or on the ground floors of high-rise residential blocks, where the environment is generally clean and hygienic.
  • The products sold in dry markets include vegetables, fruits, grains, daily necessities, incense, candles and clothing.
