  • 马来语 “Geylang Bahru” 的音译。
  • 有一种说法认为 “Geylang” 的拼写是由马来语中的 kilang一词演变而来，意思是 “工厂”。另一种说法认为 “Geylang” 这个地名最早拼写为 “Gilang”，在马来语中的意思是 “灿烂”。
  • 峇鲁（Bahru）在马来语中的意思是 “新”。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “芽笼峇鲁” is the transliteration of the Malay term Geylang Bahru.
  • One belief is that the spelling of “Geylang” evolved from the Malay word kilang, which means “factory”. Another belief is that the place name “Geylang” was initially spelt as “Gilang”, which means “splendid” in Malay.
  • Bahru means “new” in Malay.
