  • 英语“Guinness World Records”的音意兼意译。
  • 1954年,健力士酒厂(Guinness Brewery)的董事长比佛爵士(Sir Hugh Beaver)在回忆起几年前猎鸟活动上发生的一场争执之后,便开始对健力士世界纪录进行构思。
  • 1955年,健力士世界纪录正式创办,并且每年都出版《健力士世界纪录大全》(Guinness World Records)一书。
  • 有意申请列入健力士世界纪录者必须符合这六项条件:可被测量、可被打破、可标准化、可被检验、须基于一个变量,且是世界最优、其他人无法做得更好的纪录。

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “健力士世界纪录大全” is a combination of the transliteration and paraphrase of the English name “Guinness World Records”.
  • In 1954, the chairman of Guinness Brewery, Sir Hugh Beaver, began entertaining the idea of having a “Guinness World Records” when he recalled a dispute that had broken out at a bird hunting event some years before.
  • The Guinness World Records were officially created in 1955, and an edition of the Guinness World Records (originally the Guinness Book of Records) is published every year.
  • Those who wish to apply to be listed in the Guinness World Records must meet six conditions: The feat must be measurable, breakable, standardisable, verifiable, based on one variable, and the best in the world that no one has bettered.
  • The Guinness World Records has been published in more than 20 languages around the world.
  • Since independence, Singapore has set more than 170 Guinness World Records. The Westin Stamford Hotel (now known as Swissotel The Stamford), designed by famed architect I.M. Pei and opened in 1986, set a record as the world’s tallest hotel at 73 floors and a height of 226.1 metres. This was Singapore’s first Guinness World Record.
  • On 28 June 2014, the Singapore Chinese Orchestra’s performance, “Our People, Our Music 2014”, set two world records: the world’s largest Chinese orchestra (single venue), and the world’s largest Chinese drum ensemble.
