由来
  • 始建于 1867 年的麦里芝蓄水池是新加坡的第一个蓄水池,原仅名为“蓄水池”(Impounding Reservoir)。
  • 蓄水池在 1891 年扩建,为了纪念汤姆森(John Turnbull Thomson),蓄水池在 1907 年被命名为“汤申路蓄水池”(Thomson Road Reservoir)。
  • 如今,麦里芝蓄水池的名字是为了纪念在 1922 年负责扩建蓄水池的工程师麦里芝(James MacRitchie)而命名。
  • 麦里芝蓄水池公园于 1967 年 8 月 4 日正式开幕。公园内设有跑步步道、运动区、儿童游乐园,以及一座演奏台供乐队进行演奏。

ETYMOLOGY
  • MacRitchie Reservoir was built in 1867 and is the first reservoir in Singapore. It was originally named “Impounding Reservoir”.
  • The reservoir was expanded in 1891 and renamed as Thomson Road Reservoir in 1907 to commemorate John Turnbull Thomson. Today, MacRitchie Reservoir is named in memory of James MacRitchie, the engineer who was responsible for expanding the reservoir in 1922.
  • MacRitchie Reservoir Park officially opened on 4 August 1967. The park features jogging trails, fitness areas, children playgrounds, and a bandstand for music performances.
  • On 5 November 2004, the 25-metre high Tree Top Walk in MacRitchie Reservoir Park opened.
  • The park underwent upgrading works in 2020 and reopened in 2021.
  • In addition to attractions like its nature trails and Tree Top Walk, MacRitchie Reservoir Park is also a location for water sport enthusiasts to practise kayaking and canoeing.
