  • 2019 年，当时的环境与水源部（Ministry of Environment and Water Resources）宣布制作新生沙的计划。
  • 新生沙的原料为熔渣（slag），是都市固体废物（ municipal solid waste）经气化后形成的一种建筑材料副产品。新生沙的制作及使用能减轻空气污染。
  • 熔渣通过一系列的高温气化过程（gastification），可转化为两种形式的 “新生沙”：
  1. 垃圾焚化底灰（ incineration bottom ash），主要用以铺设道路基层和路底基层。
  2. 新骨料（vitrified glass-like slag），可作为一种建筑材料，取代部分混凝土中的细骨料（fine aggregate）。
  • 淡滨尼 （Tampines）是本地首个用新生沙建造邻里设施的市镇。从淡滨尼天地（Our Tampines Hub）通往达鲁古法兰回教堂（Masjid Darul Ghufran）的道路便是以新生沙铺设而成，路段长达105公尺。
  • 新生沙可用以铺设人行道、修路及进行三维打印（ 3D printing）。
ETYMOLOGY
  • In 2019, then Ministry of Environment and Water Resources announced the plan to create NEWSand.
  • The raw material of NEWSand is slag, a construction material by-product formed after the gasification of municipal solid waste. The production and use of NEWSand helps to reduce air pollution.
  • Slag can be converted into two types of NEWSand through a series of high-temperature gasification:
  1. Incineration bottom ash, mainly used as road base and road sub-base material.
  2. Vitrified glass-like slag, used as construction material to replace part of the fine aggregate in concrete.
  • Tampines is the first town in Singapore to use NEWSand in its neighbourhood facilities. The 105-metre road from Our Tampines Hub to Masjid Darul Ghufran is paved with NEWSand.
  • NEWSand can be used to pave pedestrian walkways, to repair roads, and in 3D printing.
