释义

名词

一组用于识别每一栋楼的六位数邮政编号。

DEFINITION

Noun

A set of six-digit numbers used to identify each building.

ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “邮区号码” is a paraphrase of the English term “postal code”. It is a method to demarcate districts originating from the United Kingdom, to help postmen deliver mail accurately.
  • In the 1950s, Singapore’s earliest postal codes were two-digit numbers, and the city was divided into a total of 28 postal areas.
  • In 1979, postal codes in Singapore expanded to four-digit numbers.
  • In 1995, Singapore adopted the six-digit postal code. The first two digits are identical to the last two digits used in the preceding four-digit postal code system, while the last four digits represent the points of delivery in the postal districts. These four digits are taken either from the block numbers of HDB flats or the identification numbers of buildings.
  • In 1995, to commemorate the use of the six-digit postal code, Singapore Post rolled out two stamp designs depicting the evolution of postal codes.
  • In Singapore, the postal code plays an important role in daily life. It can be used to locate a certain place, or used for residential registration, school enrolment, housing and other matters.
  • By the end of March 1999, the rate of postal code use had reached 98%.
例句
吴庆辉又举例说,本地不同年代的地址也有不同的书写方式,1950年新加坡首次有邮区的划分,当时全岛只有28个邮区,两位数的邮区号码,从01到28。(《联合早报》, 13/7/2020)
SAMPLE SENTENCE
Ng Ching Huei also cited the example that local addresses in Singapore were written in different ways at different times. Singapore was divided into postal districts for the first time in 1950. At that time there were only 28 postal districts on the island, with two-digit postal codes numbering from 01 to 28. (Lianhe Zaobao, 13/7/2020)
