  • It is believed that “臭酸” originated from the Hokkien term cao sng.
  • The term is derogative and can be used to describe the foul odour emitted from food, the environment, items, or even a person’s expression.
  • For instance, the term can be used to describe or mock the expression of an unhappy and impatient person.
