• The Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce was established in 1906. The English name was changed to Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce & Industry (SCCCI) in 1977, but its Chinese name remains the same. SCCCI’s mission is to promote the development of industry and commerce, economic prosperity, cultural and educational activities as well as community services in Singapore.
• SCCCI bore witness to Singapore’s development at every stage. From the British colonial period to Singapore’s independence and nationbuilding years, SCCCI played an important role in the areas of business, education, culture and community development in Singapore.
• In 1966, Singapore’s founding Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew noted: “The history of the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce is a reflection of the history of Singapore.” This statement encompasses SCCCI’s journey in its early years and highlights its mission to keep pace with the times.
