  • 英语“Singapore-Johor-Riau (SIJORI) Growth Triangle”的意译。“SI”、“JO”及“RI”分别为新加坡、柔佛州(Johor)及廖
    内群岛(Riau Islands)的英文缩写。
  • 1989年了，时任新加坡第一副总理吴作栋提出区域经济一体化的概念。在1990年代，东南亚国家的经济也朝往区域经济一体化的方向发展。
  • 当时，新加坡正处于调整经济结构的过程中,面临土地局限、劳动力成本增加及货币升值的三重打击。为应对这三方面的挑战，吴作栋宣布了“成长三角区”计划，以把新加坡、柔佛州及廖内群岛联系在一起,加强区域经济的联系,并应许三个不同的经济体形成相互增强和互补的关系。
  • 1994年，新加坡、马来西亚及印度尼西亚政府正式签署备忘录。在该计划协议的合作框架里，新加坡会提供资金、战略方向及管理跨境区域经济发展模式的专业知识，而柔佛和廖内群岛两个地区则会提供土地和劳动力。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “新柔廖成长三角” is a paraphrase of the English term “Singapore-Johor-Riau (SIJORI) Growth Triangle”. “SI”, “JO”, and “RI” are the abbreviations of Singapore, Johor, and the Riau Islands, respectively.
  • Goh Chok Tong, then First Deputy Prime Minister of Singapore, proposed regional economic integration in 1989. In the 1990s, the economic development of Southeast Asian countries was also moving towards regional integration.
  • At that time, Singapore was in the process of adjusting its economic structure and faced three challenges: rising land costs, rising labour costs, and currency appreciation. To address these challenges, the “growth triangle” plan announced by Goh Chok Tong would connect Singapore, Johor and the Riau Islands, to strengthen regional economic ties and enable the three economies to form a mutually beneficial relationship.
  • The governments of Singapore, Malaysia and Indonesia formally signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 1994. Singapore would provide capital, strategic direction and professional knowledge in the management of the cross-border regional economic cooperation, while Johor and the Riau Islands would contribute land and labour.
