DEFINITION

Noun

A system for rating appliances that use water, with the number of ticks indicating the level of water efficiency.

ETYMOLOGY
  • In 2006, PUB, Singapore’s National Water Agency, implemented the Voluntary Water Efficiency Labelling Scheme (WELS). In 2009, it launched the Mandatory WELS.
  • Under these schemes, products are affixed with the water efficiency label to indicate their water efficiency level. For the Mandatory WELS, products with the highest water efficiency rating are marked with either four ticks or three ticks depending on the product category, while for the Voluntary WELS, the highest rating is three ticks.
  • Currently, only shower heads are classified under the Voluntary WELS; all other products are classified under the Mandatory WELS.
例句
