Noun

A document that records a person’s time and place of birth as well as their parents’ names. Also known in Chinese as “出生字” or “出生纸”.

由来
  • 源自福建话 po se tsua。
  • 2022年以前，父母一般可在医院或移民局大厦为在新加坡出生的新生儿进行出生注册，获取纸本的出生证书。
  • 从2022年5月29日起，新加坡简化了生死注册程序，父母可通过SG生活助手 (LifeSG) 手机应用填写报生的相关资料，之后于90天内在移民局的线上系统下载电子出生证书。不过，若孩子不在医院出生，父母还是必须前往移民局大厦进行出生注册。
  • 父母必须在新生儿出世后的42天内为其注册，否则将有可能面临罚款或监禁，或两者兼施。
  • 当局不会对在国外出生的新生儿发出证件。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The term originated from the Hokkien dialect term po se tsua.
  • Before 2022, all newborns in Singapore had to be registered at hospitals or the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority (ICA) building. After registration, a physical birth certificate was issued.
  • From 29 May 2022, the registration process for births and deaths has been simplified. Parents can now use the LifeSG app to submit the necessary information for birth registration. Subsequently, they can download an electronic birth certificate from ICA’s online system within 90 days. However, newborns not born in a hospital still need to be registered at the ICA building.
  • Parents must register their newborn within 42 days of birth, or they may face the possibility of imprisonment or a fine or both.
  • Singapore does not issue birth certificates for births that occur overseas.
