• The Community Chest was founded by Dr Ee Peng Liang in 1983 under the then Singapore Council of Social Service. Dr Ee was a businessman and philanthropist who was known as the “Father of Charity”.
• The Community Chest was established to raise funds, encourage community participation, and provide services to those in need. It has established strong partnerships with individuals, and across the private and public sectors, to build an impactful social service ecosystem.
• In 1992, the Singapore Council of Social Service (SCSS) was restructured to form the National Council of Social Service (NCSS). Dr Ee handed over his position as Chairman of the Community Chest to Dr Richard Eu and his position as President of NCSS to Dr Robert C.K. Loh.
• The Community Chest raises funds through various programmes and initiatives, such as SGSHARE, a national regular giving programme that provides a reliable and sustained source of funds to support critical social service programmes requiring assistance.
• Currently, Community Chest is the key fundraiser in Singapore to empower the communities in need.

The Community Chest has developed from a single-function platform for raising funds into a comprehensive assistance platform. The agency allows institutions and individuals to contribute their time, skills and resources through partnerships with social service organisations in addition to personal donations.
