由来

有一种说法认为梧槽尾或源自福建话 go cho bue，指靠近梧槽河的河口岸边一带，而 “尾” 指河口或河的末端。
梧槽尾的真正名称曾经过多次的更改。“哥罗福街” 是在 1858 年才改以新加坡第二任驻扎官（Second Resident）哥罗福医生（Dr John Crawford）的姓氏命名。这条街早在 1836 年是 “惹兰梧槽”（Jalan Rochor），在 1846 年和 1857 年是 “马吉路”（Market Road），在 1854 年是 “马吉街”（Market Street），和当时在莱佛士坊（Raffles Place）的 “马吉街”（Market Street）同名。1858 年更名的主要原因是为了避免两条 “马吉街” 撞名而造成混乱。
1970 年瓷器商中心（俗称碗店口）的二十多家瓷器商集体迁到梧槽尾，让梧槽尾成为新的 “碗店口”，并在 1970 年 9 月 26 日举行开幕典礼。原克莱台（Clyde Terrance）一带的 “碗店口”，在1968 年受黄金大道发展计划的影响，瓷器商先集体搬到梧槽尾附近的爪哇路（Java Road，俗称白塔巷）临时营业，后来再由建屋发展局（Housing and Development Board）分配到梧槽尾继续营业。
早期梧槽尾一带是个繁忙的卸货地点。

ETYMOLOGY

It is believed that the Mandarin term “梧槽尾” may have originated from the Hokkien term go cho bue, which refers to the area near the mouth of Rochor River. The Chinese character “尾” has the meaning of river mouth.
The actual name of “梧槽尾” has been changed many times. It was changed to “Crawford Street” in 1858, named after Dr John Crawford, the Second Resident of Singapore. The street was Jalan Rochor in 1836, Market Road in 1846 and 1857, and Market Street in 1854, which was homonymous with another Market Street located at Raffles Place then. The main reason for the renaming in 1858 was to avoid confusion caused by the two Market Streets.
In 1970, more than 20 porcelain merchants from the Porcelain Merchants Centre (“瓷器商中心”, colloquially known as “碗店口”) collectively m；loved to Crawford Street, which became the new “碗店口”. Its opening ceremony was held on 26 September 1970. Affected by the Golden Mile development, the merchants at the former “碗店口” in the Clyde Terrance area had collectively moved to Java Road (colloquially known as “白塔巷”) near Crawford Street for temporary operations. Later, they were assigned to Crawford Street by the Housing and Development Board to continue their business operations.
In the early days, the “梧槽尾” area was a busy location for unloading goods.
