Located in central Singapore, a place for leisure in the Holland Road and Queensway area.

由来
  • 由于临近东陵（Tanglin）地区，且只有登布西路（Dempsey Road）一条主要道路，因此登布西山在过去也被称为 “东陵村”（Tanglin Village）或直接称为 “登布西路”。
  • 登布西的名称源自于第二次世界大战的名将玛斯·克里斯多福·登布西爵士（Sir Miles Christopher Dempsey）。登布西曾担任英国第二军（British Second Army）的统帅，二战结束后则任英军东南亚联军陆军总司令（Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Land Force South East Asia）。
  • 1850 年代的登布西山原是一片称为 “哈里特山”（Mount Harriet）的豆蔻种植园。这片豆蔻园是英国海峡殖民政府库务司威廉·威兰斯（William Willans）和胡璇泽（也称胡亚基、黄埔先生等）共同持有。
  • 英国殖民地政府在 1860 年 5 月以 25,000 西班牙银元从两人的手中买下 “哈里特山”，在这一区建造了黑白洋房，并发展成东陵兵营（Tanglin Barracks），最终英军于 1872 年入驻于此。
  • 在 1971 年，随着英军的撤出，新加坡国防部（Ministry of Defence）和中央人力局（Central Manpower Base）入驻。
  • 在 1990 年代，随着国防部的离去，这区交由新加坡土地局（Singapore Land Authority）管理，并租借给私人营业者经营。
  • 2007 年这一区正式命名为登布西山。
ETYMOLOGY
  • As it is close to Tanglin area and has only one main road (namely Dempsey Road), Dempsey Hill was also previously known as Tanglin Village or simply Dempsey Road.
  • The name Dempsey originated from Sir Miles Christopher Dempsey, a famous soldier in World War II. Dempsey was the commander of the British Second Army and the Commander-in-Chief of the Allied Land Force South East Asia of the British forces after the war.
  • In the 1850s, Dempsey Hill was a nutmeg plantation known as Mount Harriet. This nutmeg plantation was jointly owned by William Willans, the Treasurer for the Crown Colony, and Hu Hsuan-tse (also known as Hoo Ah Kay or Mr Whampoa).
  • In May 1860, the British colonial government bought Mount Harriet from the two men for 25,000 Spanish silver dollars, and built black and white bungalows in this area. It was developed into the Tanglin Barracks, and the British army eventually settled here in 1872.
  • In 1971, with the withdrawal of the British troops, Singapore’s Ministry of Defence and the Central Manpower Base moved to Dempsey Hill.
  • After the Ministry of Defence moved out in the 1990s, the area was subsequently managed by the Singapore Land Authority and leased to private operators.
  • In 2007, this area was officially named as Dempsey Hill.
