A core component of Singapore’s holistic education system, consisting of four main types of student activities: clubs and societies, sports, uniformed groups, and visual and performing arts.

由来
  • 课程辅助活动 (Co-curricular activity) 的前称为“课外活动” (Extra-curricular activity)。 
  • 课外活动的历史悠久，最早可追溯到1901年莱佛士书院 (Raffles Institution) 的全国学生军团 (National Cadet Corps)。  
  • 1998年起，教育部 (Ministry of Education) 实行了课外活动奖励制度 (ECA Bonus System)。在这一制度下，学生可使用课外活动所获得的分数相抵学分，帮助他们在未来考入理想的学校。
  • 新加坡政府重视课外活动，认为这是学生全面发展中不可或缺的一部分，而不是“课外”之事，因此在1999年将活动改名为“课程辅助活动”来强调其重要性。
  • 教育部强制规定中学生参与课程辅助活动，而小学生则可选择是否参与。
  • 2004年，教育部为小学生推行了直接收生计划 (Direct School Admission)，若小学生在课程辅助活动中表现优异，便可以以他们某方面的才华被理想的中学直接录取。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Co-curricular Activities (CCA) were formerly known as Extra-curricular Activities (ECA), or “课外活动”.  
  • ECA has a long history, dating back to 1901 with the National Cadet Corps at Raffles Institution.
  • In 1998, the Ministry of Education implemented the ECA Bonus System, in which points earned from ECA participation could help students gain admission into their preferred schools in the future.
  • In 1999, with the Singapore Government promoting ECAs as an integral part of students’ holistic development, they were renamed “Co-curricular Activities” to emphasise their importance.
  • The Ministry of Education makes it mandatory for secondary school students to participate in CCAs, while participation for primary school students is voluntary.
  • In 2004, the Ministry of Education launched the Direct School Admission (DSA) programme for primary school students. Students who perform well in their CCAs can gain admission to their preferred secondary schools based on their talents in specific areas.
