ETYMOLOGY
  • The Singapore judiciary has adopted modern digital technology and implemented the Integrated Electronic Litigation System.
  • In 2000, Singapore introduced the Electronic Filing System, which enables court documents to be prepared and filed for electronically, changing the way civil litigation is conducted.
  • As a remnant of British colonial culture, Singapores legal system is based on the British Common Law. In accordance with the provisions of the British legal system, the losing party must compensate the costs incurred by the winning party.
  • The costs will usually be determined by the court based on the fees as dictated by the Law Society of Singapore.

SAMPLE SENTENCE
The husband and wife who ran the printing company passed away consecutively. The son claimed that his sister embezzled part of the inheritance and filed a lawsuit in the High Court to recover it. However, the judge pointed out that the son was aware of the contents of the will, and since he did not object it at the time and did not question it for the past 25 years, his application was dismissed.
