ETYMOLOGY
  • Hwa Chong Junior College (HCJC) was founded in January 1974. It was Singapore’s second junior college, and the first government-aided junior college.
  • As the HCJC campus in Bukit Timah is painted in beige and brown, it sometimes appeared to be bathed in a golden-yellow glow at sunset, hence the poetic name “黄城” (“yellow city”).
  • To provide its students with a holistic education, HCJC offers bilingual and bicultural programmes.
  • On 1 January 2005, HCJC merged with The Chinese High School to become Hwa Chong Institution (HCI). After the merger, a six-year Integrated Programme was established, with the school divided into a College section and a High School section.
