Noun
Schools that maintain a certain level of autonomy over how they operate, while receiving funding from the Singapore Government and following a similar curriculum to government schools. Also known in Mandarin as “辅助学校”.
Government-aided schools may receive funding from the Government for purposes such as the building of school facilities.
Some government-aided schools are also autonomous schools. In addition to following the national syllabus, these schools also provide a wider range of programmes to enhance their students’ learning experience and develop their talents.
Some government-aided schools are also Special Assistance Plan (SAP) schools that are committed to nurturing bilingual students. Students have the opportunity to be immersed in Chinese language and culture.
Over the next three years, school fees for non-Singapore citizens attending government schools and government-aided schools will increase annually. The increase will be between S$25 and S$150 per month. (Lianhe Zaobao, 18/10/2017)
