由来
  • 荷兰村得名于荷兰路。
  • 关于荷兰路名字的由来有两种说法。第一种说法是该路以一名英国建筑师休·荷兰（Hugh Holland）命名。第二种说法则认为是以殖民地秘书长（Secretary of State for the Colonies）亨利·瑟斯坦·荷兰（Henry Thurstan Holland）命名。
  • 1929 年，新加坡乡村局（Rural Board）将位于波那维斯达路和荷兰路之间的乡村命名为 “荷兰村”。
  • 由于荷兰村位于新加坡植物园（Singapore Botanic Gardens）附近，早期人们也以福建话将荷兰村俗称为 hue hng au ，即 “花园后”。
  • 位于荷兰村内的集美花园（Chip Bee Gardens）曾经是英殖民政府的英军将士和他们家人的聚居地。
ETYMOLOGY
  • Holland Village is named after Holland Road.
  • There are two beliefs regarding the origin of Holland Road’s name. The first is that the road is named after Hugh Holland, a British architect. The second is that it is named after Henry Thurstan Holland, the Secretary of State for the Colonies.
  • In 1929, the Rural Board of Singapore named the village between Buona Vista Road and Holland Road as Holland Village.
  • As Holland Village is located near the Singapore Botanic Gardens, it was also colloquially known in Hokkien as hue hng au or “花园后”.
  • Chip Bee Gardens, located in Holland Village, was once the settlement of the soldiers of the British colonial government and their families.
