• The Indian Heritage Centre, a Heritage Institution under the National Heritage Board, was officially opened by then Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 7 May 2015.
• It is located in the heart of Little India. Visitors to the centre can also explore Little India to experience the richness and diversity of Indian culture.
• The four-storey Indian Heritage Centre has a total floor area of 3,090 square metres. Its facade integrates features of modern and traditional Indian architecture. There are five permanent exhibition galleries, a special exhibition gallery, a museum shop and activity spaces.
• The exhibits are organised around five themes, spanning from the first to the 21st century. They explore the journey of the Indian and South Asian communities in Singapore and Southeast Asia, spanning from the early historical connections between South and Southeast Asia to the significant contributions of Singapore’s Indian and South Asian pioneers in shaping the nation.
• Before its opening, the Indian Heritage Centre held a collection drive in 2011 to seek cultural artefacts from the public and received enthusiastic responses from both local and overseas Indian communities. For example, descendants of a local Indian businessman donated a precious family heirloom necklace.

Racial Harmony Day celebrations by the National Heritage Board are now in their fourth year. This year, for the first time, celebratory activities are brought into the community in collaboration with Indian Heritage Centre, Malay Heritage Centre, Sun Yat Sen Nanyang Memorial Hall and Eurasian Association. Various activities will be conducted on the coming Saturday (13 July) and Sunday (14 July). (Lianhe Zaobao, 9/7/2024)
