• The Mandarin term “星耀樟宜” is a paraphrase of the English term “Jewel Changi Airport” (abbreviated as “Jewel”).
• Jewel Changi Airport, with an area of nearly 140,000 square metres, was officially opened by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on 18 October 2019.
• It is jointly developed by the Changi Airport Group and CapitaMalls Asia, costing approximately $1.47 billion.
• In 2013, the two companies proposed the construction project to build Jewel Changi Airport. It was then known as “宝石计划” in Mandarin, which is a paraphrase of the English term “Project Jewel”. The Mandarin translation of “Jewel” to “星耀” was officially decided in 2017 and has the symbolic meaning of “lighting up the city of Singapore” . From 2013 to 2017, Jewel Changi Airport was also known in Mandarin as “樟宜宝石”.
• The construction of Jewel aimed to strengthen the connection between the three airport terminals, consolidate Changi Airport’s position as a regional aviation hub, and create a shared leisure destination for Singaporeans and travellers alike.
• In addition to more than 280 restaurants and branded stores, Jewel also has landscape attractions such as Forest Valley, Rain Vortex, and Canopy Park.

Now in its 50th anniversary, the Chingay Parade had come to Jewel Changi Airport for the first time. Set against the backdrop of Forest Valley and Rain Vortex, the parade transported the audience across different worlds and into a dreamland. (Lianhe Zaobao, 13/2/2022)
