• The Mandarin term “酒廊” is a combination of the transliteration and a paraphrase of the English term “lounge”. The Chinese character “廊” can refer to the houses around the hall.
• There are two types of lounges. The first type is the lobby lounge, which is usually located in hotels and shares a similar style and ambience with the hotel lobby. It is mainly for guests to rest and have afternoon tea. The second type is the nightclub lounge, which is primarily a place of entertainment for guests to enjoy delicious food, sample specially prepared cocktails, play games, and listen to music. Many lounges in Singapore are located in hotels.
