ETYMOLOGY
  • Mount Faber was originally named Tulloh Blangan Hills (or Telok Blangah Hill).
  • Mount Faber covers a total land area of 56.46 hectares and stands at a height of 105 metres.
  • In early 1845, the colonial government replaced the signal station on Pulau Belakang Mati (now Sentosa) with a new maritime communication flagstaff on Mount Faber.
  • The project was led by engineer Captain Charles Edward Faber, who had arrived from Madras (now Chennai), India. He directed a group of Indian prisoners to build a road up the hill.
  • Upon completion of the road and flagstaff, the government renamed the hill in his honour.
  • In 1970, the extension of Henderson Road led to Mount Faber being split into two parts. While the eastern half kept the name Mount Faber, the western half was renamed back to Telok Blangah Hill.
  • Mount Faber Park was built in the 1960s. In 1994, new amenities were added to the park, and the landscaping was redesigned.
