Noun

A common local Malay delicacy. The dish comprises rice cooked with coconut milk and pandan leaves, and is traditionally eaten with chili sauce, ikan bilis (dried anchovies), eggs, cucumber and fried fish. Now it is considered an inter-racial local delicacy.

  • 椰浆饭的英语名称“Nasi Lemak”源自于马来语,在马来语里nasi指的是饭,lemak原意为油脂,加了椰浆煮成的饭因感觉油腻而称为nasi lemak。椰浆饭原是马来人传统简单的廉价早餐,现在菜肴的选择更加丰富,成为各族人民的普遍喜爱的餐食。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “Nasi Lemak” originated from the Malay language. In Malay, nasi refers to rice, while lemak originally meant oils or fats. Rice cooked with coconut milk has an oily texture, hence the dish became known as nasi lemak. Nasi Lemak was originally an affordable and traditional breakfast dish eaten by Malays. Now there is a wide range of side dishes to complement the dish and it has become a dish enjoyed by people of all races.
