由来
  • “霸王车”一词，由“霸王”和“车”二词合并而成。其中，“霸王”一词包含着非法营运、乘车该付费时却不付费等蛮横无理的行为的意思。
  • 因为就业困难，1960年代的新加坡曾经出现过数以千计的无执照出租车。
  • 根据公路交通法令(Road Traffic Act)，非法营运私召车的司机将被罚款最多新币3,000元或监禁最长六个月，或两者兼施。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The term “霸王” means unreasonable behaviour, running illegal operations, or not paying when a ride should be paid for. The character “车” refers to a car, or more broadly a mode of transport.
  • Due to difficulties in finding jobs in the 1960s, thousands of unlicensed taxis sprang up in Singapore.
  • According to the Road Traffic Act, drivers who illegally operate private hire cars may be fined up to S$3,000, or imprisoned for up to six months, or both.
