Noun

A traditional steamed Teochew pastry, usually with pink skin. Also known as “红桃粿” or “米包米”. 

由来
  • 源自于潮州话 png kueh。
  • 饭粿的外皮一般以糯米粉制成,轻薄弹牙。除了常见的粉红色,如今也有白色的饭粿。
  • 饭粿的内馅以煮熟的糯米饭为主,一般混合香菇、花生、干虾米等材料炒制而成。
  • 用于固定饭粿外型的模具一般为扁平的寿桃形状。寿桃象征长寿,因此除了日常食用,饭粿也可在节庆时用于祭拜神明或祖先。
  • 在新加坡,饭粿可蘸甜酱油、参峇辣椒等酱料一同食用。
ETYMOLOGY
  • The Mandarin term “潮州饭粿” originated from the Teochew term png kueh.
  • The skin of png kueh, made using glutinous rice flour, is thin and delicate, with a little bite. In addition to the commonly seen pink colour, png kueh are also made in other colours such as white.
  • The filling of png kueh is typically glutinous rice that has been fried together with mushrooms, peanuts and dried shrimps.
  • The mould used to form png kueh takes the shape of a peach, which  symbolises longevity. Hence, png kueh is also popularly used in deity or ancestor worship during festivals.
  • In Singapore, png kueh can be eaten with sweet soy sauce, sambal chilli, or other sauces.
