由来

“德士”是英语 “taxi” 的音译。
作为海上贸易中心的新加坡，船只为重要的运输与交通工具。早年驳船普遍出现在马来群岛的海域上，除了进行贸易活动以外，也是当地人普遍使用的交通工具。
1983年，新加坡政府实施了清理新加坡河运动 (River Clean-up Campaign)，新加坡河的船只被迁移至巴西班让 (Pasir Panjang)。
1987年，新加坡河游船公司 (Singapore River Cruise) 获得水上德士的营运权，此后船只便作为水上德士，载送乘客观赏新加坡河的风光。2008年，原本由柴油驱动的船只改为电力操作。乘船地点分别在滨海艺术中心、驳船码头、克拉码头、克里门梭 (Clemenceau) 及罗拔申码头 (Robertson Quay)。

ETYMOLOGY

The Mandarin term “德士” is the transliteration of the English term “taxi”, while “水上” means “on the water”.
As a maritime trade centre, Singapore has a long history of water-borne transport. In the early years, barges were common on the waters of the Malay Archipelago, serving to transport people and goods.
In 1983, the Government implemented the River Clean-up Campaign. Boats along the Singapore River were relocated to Pasir Panjang.
In 1987, the licence to operate a river taxi service was awarded to Singapore River Cruise. Since then, bumboats serve as river taxis, carrying passengers on sightseeing tours along the Singapore River. In 2008, the boats’ diesel-powered engines were replaced by electric ones. Boarding points are located at the Esplanade, Boat Quay, Clarke Quay, Clemenceau and Robertson Quay.
